Condoleeza Rice at SBC?

Condoleeza Rice, who reportedly is not interested in running for President and who is said to favor abortion rights, has been invited to speak at the Southern Baptist Convention.

That creates all sorts of questions.

What kind of questions does it create? The SBC is a large group of people with diverse interests.

Kat, first it creates questions regarding Rice's intentions. It is somewhat unusual for a Secretary of State to address this body.

Second, the SBC is a diverse group as a whole, but the leadership is not as much so. Certainly, denominational leadership is decidedly pro-life.

I am not saying that it was inappropriate to invite her -- it is my understanding that Rice is a Christian with deeply held beliefs, and one need not agree on everything in order to be invited to speak. I only find the invitation curious.

GWB (Methodist) spoke last year (via video)..

Have we ever had a SOS openly and as committed a Christian before?

Sistasmiff, that is a reasonable point. To try to clarify my thoughts, I only am curious as to how the invitation and acceptance came about. It may be that Rice is appearing before such groups in order to guage her support for a possible run for the Presidency.

Perhaps I am reaching there, but I would not be disappointed if that thought were in her mind.
